About ReQuiem Runway

Every year, the Apparel Design & Merchandising program at SFSU hosts a captivating fashion exhibition that highlights unique collections crafted by senior designers. These gifted students meticulously develop their ideas, mood boards, and sketches, transforming their visions into stunning runway creations. In addition, this year's event will spotlight the innovative work of junior designers who are committed to sustainability, incorporating donated textiles to craft new, marketable garments. These designers are dedicated to minimizing waste and advocating for a more environmentally conscious apparel industry by reimagining the
appearance of existing clothing. Senior designers will demonstrate their technical expertise through individual collections that reflect their personal design identity and artistic vision.

The Apparel Design & Apparel Merchandising program presents two distinct concentrations: one in Design and the other in Merchandising. These concentrations equip students for diverse career paths within the apparel and associated industries. Across both areas of study, students delve into the intricacies of human behavior, societal issues, and environmental considerations, analyzing their profound implications on the global apparel landscape. Upon attaining a Bachelor of Science degree, graduates emerge with the skills to excel in a spectrum of roles within the apparel sector, spanning from product development and sourcing to styling and merchandising. The mission of the Family, Interiors, Nutrition & Apparel (FINA) Department is to deliver a transformative educational journey, fostering a deep understanding of contemporary challenges affecting individuals, families, and communities in domains such as food, shelter, clothing, and relationships. This educational odyssey steers students toward fulfilling career trajectories. At the core of each FINA program lies the cultivation of critical thinking, the embracement of diverse perspectives, the implementation of inclusive teaching methodologies, and the cultivation of professional standards aimed at enriching the lives of those whom our graduates will serve.
